#TheSpunkySoul Long Mixed Metal Feather Pendant Necklace #Review

I went not too long ago to an art installation project, it was a participatory piece.  I had no idea what that meant before I went.  The event was called "Eat More Than a Mud Cookie" and it was a follow-up event to the Walk a Mile for Water event that we had every intention of going to, but missed.  But this one was a hunger awareness event.  In my head I thought that maybe we'd each smear some colored mud onto a canvas or our mud cookies would become a part of the piece somehow.  Something, I didn't know.
But it ended up being a Native American style ritual and the art piece was a dream catcher.  We participated by adding a feather and with each feather added, a dollar was donated.  Understandably, photos were not permitted during a lot of the ceremony and I wouldn't have wanted to anyway, but I did manage to get a cell phone photo of the actual art piece during a break in the ceremony, along with a few other parts of the event.  It was such a wonderful thing to go to.
And as my children and I each clipped the feathers and string to add them to the dream catcher, I thought about the freedom that wings give to it's owner.  How incredible would it be to be able to fly to a new land where food is plentiful?  How wonderful that freedom would be.  Of course, I'm sure snakes might feel the same about a good old fashioned pair of legs.  But there's just something about wings and feathers, to be able to rise above your situation that's awe inspiring.
And I think that lots of people feel that way, that's why feathers are in all sorts of things, from shirts and hats, to hair extensions and head bands.  I think we like to feel close to that freedom, we envy that freedom.  Or maybe we just like to have a reminder that it's okay to leave our cares behind sometimes and BE free.  So when I saw the Mixed Metal Feather Necklace from Spunky Soul, I of course loved it right away.  It's not only the feathers, but the range in color too, it's beautiful.
It's one of the long sort of necklaces, with a chain of 30" and an extra 2" of adjusting links.  All three feathers are on the same ring at the middle, so there's no way that the back of the necklace will come into the front, it stays out back.  I think that's a big plus when looking for a necklace.
The three metals are fashion gold, silver, and brass.  They go great together.  You know, it's funny, I was always very well aware when I was a kid that metals should never be mixed.  It was a rule.  It took me years to get over that and accept mixed metals.  And now that I have, I can't imagine why it was ever a faux pas to begin with!
Whenever I get jewelry, which admittedly isn't very often, I always seem to have issues with the metals discoloring or the chains breaking.  What I noticed about this necklace is that the chain is pretty strong compared to many others.  And you know what?  I had my necklace on my bedroom window sill because I removed it before I went to bed.  Then my husband managed to shut the mid-sized feather into the window when he was removing the A/C unit.  When I noticed that it was bent, I was pretty nervous.  I honestly didn't think that it would survive being straightened back out.  Not only did it survive it, but it didn't seem to even be weakened by it!  It straightened out quickly and nicely.
Overall, I think this necklace is a pretty nice one, quality and style wise.  It's a really nice piece to have or to give and even comes ready to give away.  I love this necklace and am glad to have it.
