One thing I don't eat often enough is vegetables. I know we discussed this a few posts beck, but it's true. My family's eating habits could definitely be better. When I do cook, it's usually a lot of meat and sauce and maybe pasta... and sauce. Occasionally I will fry up a ton of veggies I butter and fool myself into thinking that's healthy. Truth is though, I LOVE vegetables. I love them raw, I love them baked, boiled, in soup, and even grilled. I just don;t eat them often. I don't like the prep of it all or the feeling that I might burn it.
That's why I love my new steamers so much. One of them came with a pretty great julienne peeler and e-cookbook. It's the Kitchen Deluxe Steamer Basket Complete Bundle. Right now, JTMM followers can get 15% off if you use the code VEGSTEAM when you click the link above and add it to your cart. I tried that code personally, it works as of today.
The steamer is very small and compact when it's folded up. It could easily just be stashed in my smallest pot where it wouldn't be taking up any room that wasn't already taken. It unfolds to a pretty decent size though. It unfolds almost flat.
The steamer was designed to also be a strainer, it has holes all over the bottom and a center post and ring to lift the steamer with. It also has three legs that are about an inch long so that an inch to an inch and a half of water can be in the pan. I'd personally prefer longer, but it seems like a pretty standard size.
The peeler that come with this set is a really nice julienne peeler. It's super sharp. It's not the smallest peeler I've had, nor the beastliest. It's just a good solid peeler. That's sharp.
It has two sides, one that peels regular and one that peels julienne style. The difference is that the one that peels julienne style has teeth on the underside. When peeled plain, the peeler leaves a cool groove pattern that actually makes it easier to hold the slippery vegetable, it's a pretty neat design.
The handle has a loop to hang it from and the side of the peeler has a smiley face cutout. I love that. Cutting veggies can get boring and tedious. Even if it's not, a smile is always sure to cheer you up. I think this set is great and I would recommend it as a gift for anyone who spends time in the kitchen or is trying to start a healthy lifestyle.
