You know what I've come to realize over the past few years? I've noticed that I am weak as heck. It's a little pathetic. You'd think from carting around kids and all their stuff for 11 years, that I'd have some sort of muscle mass to me, but no. I'm about as weak as they come. It's a little concerning, actually. What if I ever needed to defend myself or my children. Could I even do it? It's a scary thought!
I've been thinking a lot about protection lately. I've gotten a weapon for my vehicle, am picking up a pepper spray key chain on my next errand trip, and have handcuffs coming in case I am ever in a situation where I can and should restrain a person for my safety. But truth be told, I'm not sure that I could ever even restrain someone to begin with. Maybe I could if I used my spray and weapon... maybe.
So as part of my healthy kick, I'm gonna be trying to gain a little muscle. Not a lot, but enough so that I'm not weak. Enough so that I can do some push-ups, that's the goal.
I'm going to be using the ProBody Pilates Exercise loop bands to help me ease into muscle building. I started a couple weeks ago and to my surprise, it wasn't a shock to my system like I thought it would be. I just threw in some bicep curls and lateral pulses whenever I had the opportunity. I actually found opportunity far more often than I thought I would, so the bands have been used a lot. But I didn't wake up in pain with jelly arms or anything, it was good. There was just a slight sore feeling.
What I love about this set of bands is that each band has it;s own thickness and strength. The yellow one is easy and is a great place to start. Meanwhile, the blue, grey, and black give more challenge and help you build more strength.
The loops also come in a mesh, draw string bag that's pretty handy. Of course the bag helps hold things together so that nothing gets lost, but it also makes it easy to grab and go.
The latex that the loops are made of seems like a nice quality material. Obviously, time will tell on that one. But they really do seem nicely made. Despite being super thin, the yellow one has not broken on me yet. But if for some reason one of them does in the first 90 days, they will not only refund the purchase, but also supply a new set of bands.
The loop bands not only help work the arms, but can be used to work out the whole body, even the smaller bands such as these. Check out the video below for ideas on exercises that tone the whole body:
More videos will play afterward with more ideas on what to do with them, they're pretty versatile little things. I definitely recommend owning a set if you're interested in building muscle or if you're interested in fitness in general.
