Boog can't start preschool for several more years. He knows his numbers by looking at them, knows some letters, knows his colors, and plenty of educational songs. He's pretty smart. But he won't be three until more than half way through this next school year, then he won't he four until half way through the school year after that. So he won't be able to start preschool until the year after THAT. And he wants to go so bad. He LOVES preschool. It was so hard to pry him away this past year when we dropped off Baby Bee.
So because he won't be able to start school for almost three more years, I want to help him learn in the meantime. I want him to keep that love of learning and of numbers and letters. Luckily he adores learning videos, like Baby Einstein and things like that. They helped him learn what he's already learned. But I want more for him than just that. He'll need to learn to write letters and numbers, not just recognize them.
I've gotten books from Walmart and Dollar Tree before with handwriting practice sheets in them, but when I get them home, I realize that they just aren't quite right for my family. My kids don't get excited about them. So I've started creating my own worksheets for all the kids to use. What's great about StartWrite 6.0, the new program I'm using, is that it's completely customizable! I can create worksheets that have his name and things that he loves. I don't need to stick to a generic "A is for apple" if I don't want to. I could make "A is for Alex", his friend. And "B is for Barn" if I wanted. With a horse, because he is obsessed with horses. And flowers, and butterflies, and balls, and Spongebob. All things that I can put in his worksheets. How awesome is that!?
I also love that I can help the other kids with handwriting. I can help them with sentence and story structure, scripture learning, and a bunch of other things. I love that I can make worksheets about anything relevant to our family at the time. I can have Baby Bee write about our camping trip in October. I can have Streaker work on learning cursive and I can help Punk get better at it.
And what's even more awesome is that it has multiple fonts to choose from. For example, I know that my kids are learning Handwriting Without Tears at their school. Although I don't like it as much as traditional cursive, I know that HWOT is the font to use when I start teaching Boogie to write, so he won't have to learn it a different way when he gets into school. And when I help the girls learn, I'm teaching them the way that they will be graded for.
Did you see the cool geometric border art on that last one? Pretty cute, right?
Anyway, the shot above shows you just a little bit of what you can do with the program, but if you're curious how it works, check out the video below:

It really is a great program and I know that there are tons of parents out there who would love a quick 'click and drag' worksheet creating software like this one. Fortunately, I have one to give away to a lucky Just 10 More Minutes? reader. I'm pretty stinking excited about it! So without further ado... THE GIVEAWAY!!!! Good luck!

I tried to follow your blog on twitter but couldn't find it. Please feel free to add me at @maureen73 so I can follow you back.
I have been searching for a handwriting program. I homeschool our three young children and it is the missing link in our curriculum. I like how your post shows just how adaptable this program is and I look forward to trying it out.
How fun! Handwriting is what we're working on right now!
Not sure what the question is at the bottom of the page but my daughter could use some handwriting practice help.
I can't find you on twitter. Please post your social networks in your sidebar.
